Acer AOD250-1624 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Over 3 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)

Acer AOD250-1624 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Over 3 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Review

I've only had my Acer AOD250 for a few days, so I can't comment on longer-term reliability or issues. Qualifications:

- I'm running Windows 7 Starter and I'm strongly resisting paying for an upgrade.
- I'm still waiting for my 2 gig RAM to arrive (grumble).
- I haven't purchased an external DVD drive yet.
- I am not a power user. Office, Acrobat, & a browser constitute about 90% of my program usage.
- It's not always possible (at least for me) to distinguish between device issues and OS issues. They do work together, so I haven't shied away from making comments that may relate as much to Win 7 SE as to the Aspire 1.

Pluses:
- Size & weight are perfect for me; not at all too heavy or large to carry with great ease, but big enough to work with comfortably.

- I love the keyboard; the smaller size is easy for me to type on and the feel of the keys is perfect.

- Start-up and shut-down are quick. (Oddly, my machine takes longer to start-up from hibernation than from just being off. Sleep is fast.)

- Nice-looking, IMO. Fingerprints aren't too noticeable, and can easily be wiped off with a soft rag.

- Computer & power converter stay nice & cool.

- Very easy to connect to new networks. (I've connected to our locked home network, a locked coffeeshop network, and a library network so far.)

- I'm running Office 2010 Beta instead of the trial version of Office 2007 or MS Works. Even with 1 gb RAM, the Acer is not slowed at all by Office 2010, and I've had no problems at all. An aside: even though I'm not usually fond of learning new versions of software, I like Office 2010 very much & prefer it to Office 2007.

- You Tube, Netflix, & Hulu run just fine. The only online image issue that I've found so far is that Yahoo mail prefers a higher resolution screen. I went back to Yahoo Classic, which I prefer anyway. All of my photographs except one look fine (not ultra-sharp but quite good), and the one just has a re-sizing problem. The resolution on this netbook is not adequate for serious photo-editing, but it's fine for an amateur like me to play with. It would also probably be useful for a photographer who just wants a place to dump, sort, & view a ton of photos without having to haul around a heavy, expensive laptop all of the time.

Cons:
- Comes with Win 7 SE instead of Home Premium. This issue has been flogged to death elsewhere.

- Though I'm getting used to the touchpad, it really is too small. I'm not sure why since there's plenty of space to make it wider, but there you are. I find that I sometimes have to touch (jab) hard to get it to work. The scrolling is pretty poor to, IMHO.

- The button for clicking is quite stiff, at least on my machine. It's difficult enough to use that it slows me down and is a psin. Hopefully I'll get more comfortable with it, but it shouldn't be this way.

- I'm getting about 2 hours of battery life surfing the web, using Word, and looking at pictures (not all apps at the same time). I'm considering a larger battery, but the weight is holding me back more than the cost. The 9-volt weighs as much as the machine!

- Speakers on the bottom, as funny as that might sound. Propping up the front a little bit helps, & the sound is decent via headphones.

- Doesn't pick up low-signal networks as easily as my full-size Dell laptop.

- Bloatware, even on a little machine like this. I wish that MS & manufacturers could control themselves in that regard, but I suppose that they get paid a lot to include the wretched stuff. As another reviewer recommended, I've removed some programs, including the redundant anti-virus trials and the games (which IMHO suck anyway.) That helped the speed. I'll probably remove Works and the Word 2007 trial as well. When I upgrade the RAM, this machine should work like lightening.

- External DVD drive required. When you set up, you're prompted to make an optical copy of the original system. While I was able to back up Win 7 Starter etc to an external hard drive with no problem, the Acer files will only write to a DVD. (Actually, 2 DVD's). No drive, no backup, no recourse if you need to do a clean install. Not nice. And yet Win 7 Starter won't let you watch DVD's, so unless you routinely burn DVD's the money for the external DVD player may be wasted.

I plan to try VLC which seems to work for many reviewers. (The Win Media Player on my old laptop running Win XP doesn't work, but VLC works perfectly so I'm optimistic.) I wouldn't have purchased a player just to watch DVD's though, as I can get all of the TV and movies that I want via the Internet.

- Lots of people have hissy fits over the inability to change the wallpaper or have a screensaver in Win 7 Starter so I'm listing this deficit, but for my part I could care less and anyway there are workarounds that are compatible with the Acer AOD250. I imported a large file of photos and had no problem running a slide show.

Conclusion:
Despite the drawbacks, this is one wonderful little machine and an incredible bargain to boot. I've seen other netbooks with apparently identical specs and lower ratings for significantly more money. I'm very happy with my Acer AOD 250 1695 and highly recommend it.

HP Mini 210-1090NR 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - 9.75 Hours of Battery Life

HP Mini 210-1090NR 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - 9.75 Hours of Battery Life Review

QUICK SUMMARY: This HP netbook is n-network ready and has good style, functionality and features for its price-point. A somewhat troubled installation process and a few design complaints make it an almost 5-star product. Recommended!

Confused about all the different HP Mini 210 models? Check the bottom of my review for a comparison chart.

WHAT I *LIKE* SO FAR:

- It's small and lightweight, like any other netbook
- The screen is LED backlit and very bright and colorful
- The keyboard has good tactile feel, and isn't noisy while using it
- I almost always touchtype the correct key on the keyboard (even the Backspace and Delete keys), even though the keyboard is smaller than my 15" laptop computer's keyboard
- It's not sluggish using Office 2007 programs
- You can upgrade the RAM yourself (without tools!)
- Streaming of my in-home, High-Def home videos went perfectly smoothly
- No vents on the bottom of the netbook, only on the sides, so the netbook doesn't gasp for air circulation while sitting on your lap
- I could upgrade the RAM with a 2GB memory module
- The upgrade to Windows Professional edition went without a hitch
- The oversized battery tilts the keyboard a bit so it's easier to type on

WHAT I *DISLIKE* SO FAR:

- The battery is huge! Check out Amazon's product pictures and you'll see it's oversized -- great for long battery life, but *awful* for aesthetic reasons. The bloated battery ruins the svelte form factor of this netbook. Worse, HP currently makes no provision to buy a second, smaller, 3-cell battery that would fit the natural contours of this device (I checked with HP about this, and they confirmed they have no stock of 3-cell batteries for the Mini 210). The upside? It give the keyboard a pleasant tilt to type on.
- The battery lock is spring-loaded on one side, but not on the other. The side that's not spring-loaded can be unlocked accidentally and easily, causing the whole battery to half fall-off the back of the netbook (this actually happened to me).
- It uses a power-on switch you have to slide with your fingernail, rather than using a simple, power-on button
- Some indicator lights, like the disk activity light, are placed on the side of the unit where you can't see them, rather than above the keyboard where you can see them
- I'm not a fan of glossy screens -- too many fingerprints to clean!
- HP replaces my [...] homepage with an HP version of [...], and that version doesn't render reliably when I fire up Internet Explorer
- The edge of the netbook below the keyboard is uncomfortably sharp when you rest your hand on it while typing; I wish HP had used a smoother, tapered edge for hand-resting comfort.

BACKGROUND:

This is my first netbook purchase, although I'm a very experienced computer user. I bought it to use at work to replace my paper notebook and to use Microsoft Office products common in the workplace. I sought for a very lightweight netbook with long battery life, good performance for its size, and a good feel to the keyboard. I looked online and in brick-and-mortar stores, and ordered this HP netbook from Amazon after first examining it in a local retailer who had it in stock (though with the battery removed, which is why I was surprised at how big this netbook's battery really is).

INSTALLATION & CONFIGURATION:

The out-of-box experience started off well. HP includes a big, can't-miss-it poster that you see immediately after opening the packing box. It concisely describes how to start configuring your new HP netbook. Basically, plug-in your netbook and turn it on, then go through the configuration steps -- like choosing your computer's name and your timezone -- to setup Windows 7 Startup edition.

When it comes to setting up the wireless network, I dispensed with HP's hand-holding setup program since I know how to setup wireless network connections on a computer. HOWEVER, I was baffled for a while trying to figure out how to turn-on the wireless card. I'm used to my Dell laptops, where there is a hardware switch somewhere on the side of the computer. With this HP netbook, there is no WiFi hardware switch. Instead, you have to use an HP software utility for enabling the wireless card. Then, you also have to press F12 to turn-on the now-enabled WiFi card. I'd prefer a slide switch to enable/disable the WiFi card. BTW, the WiFi is b/g/n-network compatible.

I encountered a problem with the battery receptacle on the netbook. When I first tried inserting the battery, it just didn't seem to fit very well. Mind you, I am *careful* with new electronics I buy, so I didn't want to force the battery without knowing what kind of force was really necessary. I did apply a fair amount of pressure to insert and lock-in the battery, but after the first reboot, the whole netbook appeared to have just died! All I saw was a black screen and a white cursor after I slid the power-on switch. I was nearly ready to pack the whole thing back to Amazon when I returned to the battery that was hard to install. I detached the battery and looked at the netbook's pin receptacle -- one of the pins was bent! I used a steak knife to unbend the pin and tried reinserting the battery once more -- it slid more easily this time, and the netbook subsequently powered-on normally. I'm convinced the pin was bent off the factory assembly line. So, if you buy this netbook, examine the battery pins at the back of the netbook to make sure they're straight!

Once you connect to the Internet, you have to do all the latest patching of Windows 7 (other programs will automatically try to get updated, too, like Java and Adobe Reader). I did the essential patching to Windows 7 only, because I needed to deal with the bloatware.

This HP netbook comes with some bloatware and assorted shortcuts that I immediately removed, including Norton Antivirus (*hate* it - use Microsoft Security Essentials, which is free, instead), a 60-day trial version of Microsoft Office Home & Student Edition, Adobe AIR, Times Reader, a bunch of Windows Live programs, and a bunch of HP programs. I uninstalled everything except the HP stuff, since I'm not certain what each HP program does at this point. HP is baked-in to Internet Explorer, too, in ways that make it hard to remove. There are a few other unknown programs I'm leaving for the time being. I've seen worse cases of bloatware on a new computer, so this actually wasn't too bad.

After uninstalling what I could, I installed Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise Edition, Microsoft Security Essentials, and my favorite utilities. The installation of Office went smoothly, including the subsequent Internet activation of the software.

All of this takes several hours to do.

USABILITY:

I've only owned this HP netbook for a few days, so I can't say I've had a lot of experience with it as yet. So far, I like using it well enough. It boots up to the login screen in 45-50 seconds (Note: after I upgraded the RAM to 2GB, it takes about 35-40 seconds to get to the login screen). It takes about another minute after you've logged in to start-up Windows Desktop and the start-up programs. Starting Microsoft Word 2007 takes 10 seconds. In my home, where I have all g-network devices (but an n-network router), this HP netbook will connect with a speed of no greater than 65Mbps -- slightly faster than a g-network device. If I was able to convert all my devices to n-network connections, I could turn-off mixed mode on the router and achieve much faster n-network connection speeds. Be aware of this if you have an n-network router with g-network devices attached to it -- you won't get the benefit of this netbook's n-network capability.

In general, the speed is good enough for regular computing needs. My general purpose computer is a 2.5Ghz, Core 2 Duo, 3.5GB RAM, 15" Dell XPS M1530 laptop. This netbook obviously is slower than my 15" laptop! Sometimes scrolling large Amazon product sheets takes a bit of time, and sometimes I have to wait a bit while this netbook chugs away at some compute-intensive tasks. In general, though, I find the speed to be suitable for my casual work.

WINDOWS 7 STARTER EDITION:

Know what you're buying when you get this (or any other) netbook with Windows 7 Starter Edition. This edition of Windows has fewer features than even Home Basic, and much fewer than Home Premium or Professional editions of Windows 7. You *can*, however, use Microsoft's Anytime Upgrade to move from the Starter edition to a higher-level edition. It took me one day to decide to spend and extra 9 to upgrade from the Windows 7 Starter edition to Windows 7 Professional (upgrading to Home Premium costs ). With the Starter edition, there is no Windows Aero user interface, you can't choose themes or even Desktop wallpaper, you don't get Windows Media Center, no Sticky Notes, and you can't even move the Taskbar (I like my Taskbar on the vertical left rather than bottom horizontal). You can use Windows Briefcase -- which has been around since Windows 95 -- to synchronize data with other computers, but it's a pretty wretched, problem-filled technology (as I found out this morning while synchronizing with my home server). Windows Professional replaces Briefcase with rock-solid Offline Files & Folders (my favorite feature of the Pro edition) which is what corporate America uses to keep data portable and synchronized.

The battery life is advertised at 9.75 hours, but that would only be true if you are playing Solitaire on the dimmest screen setting possible, with no disk activity and no Internet connection turned on. I use Battery Bar (freeware) to watch over battery power. It's too early to tell at this point, but I think 4-6 hours is probably a more realistic expectation. Battery Bar reports 5.5 hours of capability based upon how I use this Mini 210 netbook. Once I use this netbook more, I'll re-post my actual battery performance.

UPGRADABILITY:

You *can* add more RAM to this netbook. Do a Google search on "how to upgrade RAM hp mini 210" to see a great video on the details of that. I performed an upgrade to this Mini 210 netbook, swapping out the 1GB memory module for a 2GB module (Crucial 2GB 256Mx64PC2-5300 CT25664AC667 DDR2 200-Pin SODIMM Laptop Memory. For that matter, the process for upgrading would let you swap out other internals, too, like a different network card or different hard drive. Pulling off the back of the netbook is a little unnerving because you don't want to bend or break the back cover, but I was able to do so without a problem -- the cover just snaps on/off.

CONCLUSION:

The one thing I dislike most about this HP netbook -- the huge battery -- is the one thing I'll appreciate at work, since I won't have to recharge the battery between or during meetings anymore. It's my own fault for knowingly buying a Mini 210 with an extended battery, so I don't downgrade my star rating because of that. I think the problem with being unable to get a second, smaller, 3-cell battery is a temporary issue related to the January 2010 release of the Mini 210 netbook line. It's the little design quirks -- placing indicator lights where you can't easily see them, battery lock switches that too easily unlock -- that make this an almost-perfect little netbook rather than a perfect netbook.

Recommended!

ASUS Eee PC T91MT 8.9-Inch Black Tablet Netbook - 5 Hours of Battery Life

ASUS Eee PC T91MT 8.9-Inch Black Tablet Netbook - 5 Hours of Battery Life Review

First, let me get this out of the way: I bought the T91MT because I didn't want an iPad.

In addition to the T91MT, I own an iPhone and a HP TouchSmart TX2. I am sold on touch computing, and find the Tablet concept fabulous and essential. I teach, and I use the TX2 and a projector as a substitute for a smartboard, so I knew that the tablet is for me. Unfortunately, the TX2 weighs in at around 5 pounds which lead me to looking for a smaller tablet. I wanted something lightweight, portable, and handy for movies and such on the run.

I waited until the iPad specifics came out, and I was intrigued but sorely disappointed. What disappointed me was the idea of a large iPod touch or iPhone. Don't get me wrong, the iPhone is a great phone, but it is a lousy tablet. I cannot check ebooks out from the library, I can't access my Zune Marketplace, and I can't tweak or customize it at all. At times, it feels like I am "borrowing" my iPhone from Apple because I can't customize it. That is why the T91MT and full-blown Windows 7 was so intriguing. The Asus Netbook has been surprisingly nice.

The Good:
It is small, light, and very comfortable.
I can check out EPub Library Books, stream Netflix, and listen to Zune.
I can ink in Evernote and keep all my notes together on all of my machines.
I can tweak, customize, and install anything I want.
The Screen size is perfect.
By disabling non-essential services, Aero effect, using 16-bit color, and disabling bluetooth I get nearly 6.25 hours of battery.
Kindle App works great (would love to see inking).
Two USB ports and SD card slots are a major plus.

The So-So:
The machine must be upgraded to 2GB of RAM (I have done that).
The SSD drive needs substantial tweaking to ensure performance.
The Windows Install needs to be slimmed down a whole bunch before it fully usable.
90% of the included software is not needed/actually makes the experience worse (by fully customizing the machine, it can nearly keep up with my TX2).
The T101MT is coming soon, and it is bigger but faster - personal difference.
Bluetooth is available (I just don't use it)

The Bad:
Palm rejection is non-existent (especially after uninstalling bloat) in OneNote and Evernote.
Upgrading the hard drive is possible but very scary
32GB SSD is small, must have 1 or 2 FAST SD cards for IE and Firefox Cache, downloads, media storage, and Skype Portable.
I am afraid of keyboard build - it seems flimsy.
Processor is underclocked, and it undervolts automatically when in tablet mode (there is a trick to get around this though).
Fingerprints

This machine is not an iPad and that is a good thing. For the comparable iPad, you will spend much more and get much less, and you will have no customization ability. My T91MT is running as fast as my iPhone can, and I have the same (and more) software installed on both. Yes, it is a half pound heavier and the battery will last 2.5 hours less, but I am more than happy with my choice.

ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1008HA-MU17-PI 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - 6 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)

ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1008HA-MU17-PI 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - 6 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Review

This is a wonderful netbook. I bought this cause I needed to do work when I am stuck at school and didn't want to drive back home waste gas. It does everything I need it to: surf the web, write documents, email, and it's portable. I use this laptop as a means to do work at school since I didn't want to buy a regular laptop. I already have a desktop at home, so I use this netbook as a means of doing SMALL AMOUNTS of works while at school.

Because it's a netbook I know not to expect it to work like a Macbook or any other fast-pace, high-capacity laptop. It's not meant for that type of functionality.

Bottom line: This is an awesome laptop if you are looking for something to do your work at a coffee shop like read and write documents and emailing.

It is not for those of you who tend to have more than 3+ programs running. Here's a quick analogy: netbooks are like little kids, if you ask them to carry an item for you they will only probably carry one or two items no more than 5 pounds. Regular laptops are adults who can carry about 5+ items about 50 pounds (depending on the adult) and not have a problem.

The processor (Intel Atom) on this netbook will not match up to regular processors like Core 2 Duos.

Do not buy this laptop if it's going to be your ONLY laptop. Buy it for convenience and portability.

ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1008HA-MU17-PI 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook - 6 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Overview

The ultra portable Asus Eee PC 1008HA Seashell weighs only 2.4 lbs and measures a mere one inch thin. Within its slick shell it packs the latest ATOM CPU from Intel, the N280, which offers 667MHz FSB, the fastest in its class. Acer Aspire One AOD150-1044 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 2.5 Hour Battery Life

Acer Aspire One AOD150-1044 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook - 2.5 Hour Battery Life Review

In the house we have other models of the netbook, the 8.9 LCD screen.

This one I like the keyboard it has just enough more space that you can type comfortable with it. The scree is better than the 8.9 LCD and so far I have no issues with it.

I will probably in the near future will add more memory and a bigger hard drive, but you can't beat the price as it does all you need to do for a netbook.

I can take it anywhere, watch a movie, surf the internet and so on. I will recommended.

ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005PE-MU17-WT 10.1-Inch White Netbook - Up to 11 Hours of Battery Life

ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005PE-MU17-WT 10.1-Inch White Netbook - Up to 11 Hours of Battery Life Review

First of all, this is not a netbook; this is a tiny laptop with all the capabilities you would want in your mobile device.

Pros:
1. Fantastic keyboard- very comfortable
2. Display: Clear and bright LCD- PLAYS HULU AND NETFLIX AT MAX RESOLUTION- No choppiness no lag. Color is amazing.
VGA out works great. I hooked it up to my 42inch Plasma to watch online video and it worked real well.
3. Setting up the wireless network is a snap.
4. Multi-tasking: Easily work with 2-3 programs. You will notice a slight (1-2sec) delay sometimes, but that's all (I have only 1GB ram installed).
5. Amazing battery life. I am getting around 10hrs.
6. No fan noise-No heated bottom.
7. Great sound considering how small this machine is.
8. Windows 7 Ready boost makes a difference. I have a dedicated 4GB HC-SD card for this and it makes a noticeable difference in performance. Another word on Win7 starter. I don't really understand why people think this is in some way inferior to more expensive Win7 versions. It does all you want it to and it runs fast.
9. ASUS fastboot also works well.
10. Decent webcam and microphones- great for Skype

Cons:
1. Multi-touch track-pad is not very responsive. The multi-touch gestures work but have a steep learning curve.
2. Battery meter is kind of whacky sometimes

All in all a great buy for around 0

ASUS Eee PC 904HD 8.9-Inch Laptop (Intel Mobile Processor, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, XP Home) Galaxy Black Review

I was looking for a nice, inexpensive laptop for my [...] old daughter. This fit the bill......It was light weight, compact and perfect for her hand size. She gets the internet anywhere there is wireless without pushing a button. The drive size is nice for her pictures and the program, Xp is full size and works like your regular desktop. I reccomend this to everyone who has a child under 14 or so where they probably want something bigger. I have seen more expensive but this fit the bill and then some and was nicely priced. May not work for an adult small keyboard.

Acer AOD250-1515 10.1-Inch White Netbook - Up to 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)

Acer AOD250-1515 10.1-Inch White Netbook - Up to 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Review

I bought this for my wife who didn't like lugging a laptop around for size/weight for simple things like web browsing. This works well for our web cam use (built in web cam does great) for skype calls to friends/family. She uses this for your office documents, as well as email and browsing the net. It lasts about 7 hours on a full charge, sometimes longer depending on if we're watching a movie or just browsing the web. My wife particularly enjoys how small and light it is, yet just big enough to be functional. I was looking at an iPad for her..but the price at 2x as much with less hardware specs and not being able to run more than one app at a time were all deal breakers. How anyone would want an iPad for 0+ over something like this is beyond me!

Acer Aspire One 531h 10.1-Inch Diamond Black Netbook - 6 Hour Battery Life

Acer Aspire One 531h 10.1-Inch Diamond Black Netbook - 6 Hour Battery Life Review

I bought my first portable computer in 1996 for ,000US (a Dell laptop with Intel P1-250MHz), then a second one in 2002 for ,500US (a Dell inspiron laptop P4-2000MHz/512-ram), and now this is my third portable computer an Acer Aspire One AOP 531H with Intel Atom N270 (1,600MHz), 1Gb Ram, 160GB HDD, an integrated webcam, Bluetooth and WiFi for only 0US --> WoW!

I just purchased this last week on 11/9/09. It was on clearance, and it cost me around 350USD. So far I am very happy with the overall built, features, and performance. I think this little netbook is nicely built. I was a little bit concern with the 3-cell Li-On battery that came with it. But I was wrong and I found the battery provides ample online time for me. I was using it with Bluetooth and WiFi on, and it was running for maybe 1 hour and I still have 1.5hr left to go. I think the battery might last a little bit longer if I turn off Bluetooth and Wifi.

The only negatives comments I have for this netbook are: (1) The left side of the netbook becomes considerably hot after 45min~60min use. (2) The built of the adapter feels cheap and the DC cord might not last a long time.

My first Acer product was a PDA and this netbook is my second Acer product. So far, I am happy with ACER ;-)

Lenovo IdeaPad S10-1311UBK6 10.2-Inch Black Netbook

Lenovo IdeaPad S10-1311UBK6 10.2-Inch Black Netbook Review

I have been using the S-10 for a couple of months now and I really like it. I purchased the computer for use mainly while traveling in my RV and it really is great. I like the light weight and long battery life. The wireless also works very well, better than on my Sony Vaio--it is very sensitive. The small right shift key is a definite mistake on the part of Lenovo, and is enough to drive me crazy. So I downloaded a freeware program called "Keytweak" and changed the up arrow to a shift key, and changed a couple of other keys. I changed the right Alt key to an "end" key. I use the end key a lot. If you buy one of these computers definitely experiment with "Keytweak." Another thing I like about it is the lack of clutter on the hard drive. It is a pleasure to use after using Vista on my Sony. I gave that computer to my wife because she doesn't get into all the software and use the explorer like I do, so Vistas annoying features are not apparent to her. I like the way Lenovo puts the USB drives on the opposite side of the computer. The Sony has then so close together that the cables intefere with each other.

In summary, I can't imagine a better netbook computer. I definitely recommend the 10.2 inch screen. I really don't feel much of a comprise when using it. Any smaller and it would be a problem.

ASUS Eee PC 1000H 10-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Fine Ebony

ASUS Eee PC 1000H 10-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Fine Ebony Review

I have had this computer for almost a year and half now, and have been using it as my primary computer. So far, everything has worked very well. The only complaint I have is that the some of the keyboard keys stick up too far and leave marks on the screen, but I think I could have gotten that replaced if I'd been more on the ball. I also might recommend the solid state drive because it is much quieter than the normal SATA drive that I have. Runs Office and even some fairly graphics-intensive games (like Unreal Tournament and Age of Mythology) just fine. Is a little choppy watching streaming video at times though, especially when in a full-screen mode.

Overall, I'd definitely recommend this laptop/netbook.
