Dell Inspiron Mini 1010 IM10v-USE034AM 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook

Dell Inspiron Mini 1010 IM10v-USE034AM 10.1-Inch Pink Netbook Review

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2S6Z1VS7Q565G I just purchased my Dell Mini 10 (Blue Cover) and I have to say that this was one of the best investments I ever made. If you think you are getting a high end laptop for the price of three-hundred bucks, then you are sorely mistaken. This is basically a smart phone PDA increased to the size of a ten inch screen with a keyboard attached. Most of the bells & whistles are intact.

At first it took me some time to get use to the screen. Websites are slightly altered due to the 10 inch screen, so and with the tool bar on top that includes (File, Refresh, etc) it can seem like there's hardly any room to view webpage's, but you'll get use to it. Viewing any site that you would on a regular desktop will have certain parts of the page moved around when viewing it on your netbook & this is to be expected because of the size.

I know everyone is complaining about the keypad, but it's really not that bad. It does take a few tries before you realized what works best for you. I've learned from having a Dell Studio Laptop that the best thing to do is just utilize the free space as a mouse and click. Don't bother trying to hit down on the key, but just double tap on the keypad to pick a selection. If you don't, you will find the experience of navigating through websites, typing a document on word, etc to be a horrendous experience.

Otherwise, if you are looking for a great small compact netbook to stay connected to the web, check email, browse a few sites - then this is the netbook for you. There isn't much customization due to the small size of the netbook that feels very light just a little under three pounds and practically smaller and skinnier then the new Twilight book. I would have it ordered it on amazon, but it was cheaper through Dell.

Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase because it's a great investment for anyone who needs internet access on the go. The only complaint I have is the price. I know its three-hundred, but I own a regular laptop with a 15 inch screen & that HP was only three-hundred. Sure, it was not a high end groundbreaking laptop, but it does the trick & power wise, it's stronger than the mini. I really feel the price point should drop by hundred bucks. Otherwise, this is still a great PC tool to have.

Pros:
Light weight (Less then three pounds)
Customizable Cover with different colors
Windows XP (Thank GOD - Vista is so WHACK)
Keyboard is 90% size of a real keyboard
Wi-Fi
3 USB slots
160GB Memory
1.66 GHZ
1GB RAM

Cons:
A bit pricey IMO - It really should be two hundred & under
No DVD Slot

Samsung NC10-14GW 10.2-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 6 Cell Battery, XP Home) White Review

As a testament to the reliability of the NC10 I thought i would post this.
My wife is hooked on facebook, and spends all evening every evening tending her farm. The NC10 has spent every night 5hrs+ for well over a year running on battery and has never missed a beat.
Personally i think everyone should try one before comitting to a netbook. The screen is too small to display a web page properly, with the wrong aspect ratio. And typing on the keyboard is a challenge for fat fingered folk like me.
I just got rid of a 10" dell and will probaly try the iPad for a bit before moving back to a "proper" notebook.
But my wife likes her NC10 and thats whats important.

HP Mini 210-1040NR 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 9.75 Hours of Battery Life Review

I love this little computer. I use it for internet and using MS Office. It does all of that perfectly with XP Home. I have zero issues with speed and connectivity is great. I especially appreciate the battery life - I get (without any power saving features enabled) about 3 hours of real world use. I bought a cheap external USB DVD drive to ease loading software. I have no trouble networking it with two Win 7 computers on my home network.

The only thing I do on it that doesn't work perfectly is Skype. Often the video (from the built in camera) gets a bit choppy eventhough the internet connection is strong. I suspect I am running up against a hardware limitation.

My wife routinely uses this to connect to a projector and gives powerpoint presentations.

Very happy with this purchase and would easily recommend.

Dell Inspiron Mini IM10-USE010AM Obsidian Laptop with Integrated TV Tuner - Black

Dell Inspiron Mini IM10-USE010AM Obsidian Laptop with Integrated TV Tuner - Black Review

===== Comfortable, Innovative and Media Friendly, but Not Perfect =====
Dell's Mini 10v is simply a breath of fresh air in an ever-cramping netbook market. Particularly, it's ingenuity make it the most-comfortable, most-useful netbook around. Its media handling features have a bit to be desired, but it makes out okay in that department too.

===== It's More than Capable =====
This Dell Mini 10v does more than just writing and surfing the Web (tip: keep your browser tabs to a minimum and not install too many Firefox extensions), but can also capture the TV signal, which is great if you have installed Windows 7 Ultimate for its Media Center, which can be had as OEM DVD for as much as Home Premium (this Mini 10v supports 32-bit edition only: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NGJO92?tag=a52-20&ie=UTF8). Other media plays decently as well, including Web videos, Flash sites and Flash games. Don't run several other programs at once, and you should be just fine. The memory card reader is an added bonus. I didn't think it would be all that useful, but it is a life-saver when traveling. The webcam quality is sub-par compared to most notebooks, but still a decent quality for a netbook I suppose.

This machine features Windows XP, which runs okay. Windows 7 would be more ideal, as the OS is optimized for the netbook, and it even outperforms XP in several areas, so you cannot go wrong in using it. Some of the newer Mini 10's (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00361G10S?tag=a52-20&ie=UTF8) feature slightly better Atom processors if you want to get the latest and greatest, but are found to be lacking in things like TV capture support. In testing, I found all Mini 10 series netbooks to be similar, aside from improved performance and configuration-specific features (or lack thereof, in this case) such as TV-cards and HDMI output.

===== It's Media Friendly =====
The built in HD media excellerator and the 9:16 ratio widescreen 10.1" display is great for watching hi-def movies on the go, with one very important exception: you must have an external DVD (or Blu-Ray) drive. I recommend this Samsung (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002C1BBU8?tag=a52-20&ie=UTF8) which sports a sexy look, on par with the Dell 's own appeal, without sacrificing functionality. Video playback is generally smooth and very few hiccups in playback have been experienced. The TV tuner featured in the similar model (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002EEP3J8?tag=a52-20&ie=UTF8) is really the only media-friendly feature really missing.

===== It's Comfortable =====
Most netbooks are unusable to me, especially where the keyboard is concerned. Most netbooks' have either tiny keyboards, or their keyboards just aren't typing-friendly. I frequently work on laptops, so I'm used to the low-profile, "chiclet-style" scissor-switch keyboards that are (or at least used to be) most common in laptops, and in fact I love them.

I'm referring to the type of keys that are flat and flush with the palm rest, and have a little flange or lip on the edges (where the space is between the keys). Such a design makes them spill-resistant, but also makes typing a breeze, as they won't inflict wrist strain due to tall keys or keys that require more force to press. So, this thing is certainly a dream to use.

===== It's Innovative =====
The touch pad is small, yet clever, allowing you to press down on the bottom-left/bottom-right corners of the pad to left-click/right-click (respectively), rather than wasting space by implementing separate buttons. The touch pad is also very touchable, as its texture and finish is matte, rather than glossy, making it much more conducive to swiping your fingers across than most of the other netbooks I laid fingers on.

Most netbooks' touch pads were glossy, making your skin shear and resist the dragging gestures. I find such a feeling to be nearly as annoying as fingernails on a chalkboard! The other netbooks were also noticeably covered in oily smudges and finger grease, both inside the track pad and also on the wrist rest. Instant turn off for me on anything but the Dell! The Mini 10 on the other hand was smudge free, thanks to their use of an oil-resistant softly-textured palm-rest.

===== It's Brilliant =====
The display is crisp and bright, and it isn't too shabby outside either, though I recommend using full brightness when being used outdoors. My only complaint about the screen is its native resolution is a bit low for my tastes, which I hope isn't just a personal preference. I'd rather see more on the screen than to see things big and close up. However, this is par for netbooks anyway. You should look into this Sony (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001PII4HW?tag=a52-20&ie=UTF8) if you absolutely must have a higher definition display while maintaining the small form factor of a netbook.

===== Processor and Battery =====
The Dell Mini 10v features the Intel Atom Z530, a 32-bit single-core processor supporting 2GB max ram. It supports Hyper Threading, so mild (but not wild) multi-tasking is possible, within reason. Try not to run more than two apps simultaneously for best performance and battery life. Intel Speedstep Technology is also built in, helping you save battery life. We averaged about 5-6 hours using the 48WHr 6 cell battery.

===== What I Loved =====
* Keyboard design - 92% full-size!
* Touch pad design - genius usability features
* Wrist rest - comfortable, remains clean/streak-free
* 3 USB ports - 2-left/1-right is dandy for using a USB mouse
* 9:16 ratio display - great for movies (see above for DVD solution)
* Built in TV tuner with HDMI output
* Keyboard + Touch pad design - seriously! It hits the mark spot-on!

===== Dissapointments =====
The things we would have liked to see were:
* 802.11n support - wave to the future already!
* 1024x600 resolution - would have preferred at least 1280x720
* 5400 RPM hard drive - would have liked a faster SSD (even if smaller)
* Windows XP - Win7 is more optimized for netbooks, XP isn't

I hope you've found this review to be helpful! :)

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1672 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Pink

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1672 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Pink Review

This is a great little PC for the price. It is great when you are travelling. Wish it came with built in wireless data connection. I connected one from ATT and works well when travelling. Wireless WIFI works great in home, in StarBucks or other hot spots like my local library.

Here are pros-
1. Very light weight. Great for travelling.
2. Built in media card reader. We can see photos and video clips on the screen which is bigger then one in Camera. Also can see downloaded videos on media player.
3. Built in Webcam and microphone works great. My children use it to talk to Grand parents who live in other continent quite frequently. We use Skype video and it works great when network connection from both end is good. My other laptop has external Webcam and microphone and my wife hates those dangling wires.
4. I installed MS Office 7 on this pc and it works okay. Offcource I am not trying to load very big documents, so no memory or other problems.
5. My wife uses this as kitchen campanion. She watches recipes and cooking videos.
6. Web browsing and e-mails works quite well.
7. Color- eye candy light pink color is great and not available from many other brands or models.

Cons-
1. Screen is comparatively small. I press F11 key when using browser. It takes away upper bar and gives more screen space. Compared to smart devices such as iPod and similar ones (which has similar price) this is bigger screen.
2. Mouse pad is quirky. When using browser, moving finger on mouse pad suddenly zoom out the screen. This makes all fonts so small that makes it un readable. Acer should fix this problem. Very annoying one.
3. Battery lasts for me for about 1.5 hours. Need to carry extra set of battery, if taking this on longer duration flight.
4. Need to convert dvds into sd-media card, if want to watch them while travelling. This is not easy to do.

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1672 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Pink Feature

  • With True Enhanced Performance.
  • Latest Technical Development.

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1672 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Pink Overview

Acer's Aspire one is more than a mobile communications platform. Although it does that extremely well. It has built in 802.11b/g and Fast Ethernet connectivity. The built in webcam lets you attend video conferences or have video chats. A 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor powers the Windows XP Home operating system. The 160 GB hard drive provides plenty of space for both your work and entertainment files. The Intel GMA 950 processor drives the 8.9-inch screen. The 1024x600 resolution provides an incredibly detailed image. An LED backlight helps to increase battery life. The Aspire One, for when you need a real computer but don't have a lot of space.

HP Mini 5101 FM955UT 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 4.5 Hours of Battery Life

HP Mini 5101 FM955UT 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 4.5 Hours of Battery Life Review

I am an avid Amazon shopper and will rarely go elsewhere for major purchases but I had no choice because when this model came out, Amazon simply did not have it. I'm very impressed with this Netbook from HP even though like all Netbooks it can be a bit of a headache playing back video files, but mainly it's the players such as the iTunes and QTime Player that is the headache and these players choke on their own file formats due to DRM and loads of fat in their file formats. I loaded the DivX player and this had resolved the choppy playback on MPEG files for even my older Netbook. Also, VLC media player is an option too, Windows Media player requires a MPEG2 decoder but still plays AVI, WMV files quite nicely. HULU plays well, and I believe Vimeo is the best player for online content. Netflix plays well with even the slowest of Netbooks. I am hoping for a Broadcom HD Graphics Accelerator option just like in the other HP's latest offerings of Netbooks. The big pluses have to be the much better keyboard design and the mousepad is exactly how all HP Netbooks be configured. The 5101 is not perfect but it is the best looking Netbook, 7200 RPM drive is standard with more choices of GB capacity, 2 MP camera which makes it one of the best in terms of video quality, and the option to upgrade to 2GB which is a nice deal. I love the durakeys, though the case can be a fingerprint magnet and is rugged as heck you'd still want to put this baby in a protective covering. I am so happy HP continued with ruggedized shells, as it is much better than plastic and it looks very nice; very professional. 3 USB ports are perfect and puts it on par with with laptops in terms of USB ports. I'm not missing the Express Slot because there simply is not enough hardware out there to make this slot usable for most people. The Smart Media slot is sufficient. The layout is nice, and there seems to be more layout space and open space for future improvements. Yes, there are two versions of this machine that have Energy Star ratings at budget level (one with the 4 cell and one with the 6 cell battery); that is the only difference or you can configure your system at HP small and medium business site and could run up to 0.00 plus for a top notch machine. I chose the 6 cell battery and I'm pretty happy with it, and in the future will upgrade to a HD version once a Graphics Accelerator that helps the Intel embedded GMA with processing HD video files. Buy the HP 5101 and you will get addicted to it.

HP Mini 5101 FM955UT 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 4.5 Hours of Battery Life Feature

  • Highly portable business-oriented netbook with 10.1-inch LED backlit screen

Asus Eee PC 1005HA-MU17-WT 10.1-Inch Intel Atom Netbook Computer (Pearl White)

Asus Eee PC 1005HA-MU17-WT 10.1-Inch Intel Atom Netbook Computer (Pearl White) Review

I had a Dell fullscale (14.1" screen or however big it was) PC and it was starting to shut down over and over for no reason. The bottom would get VERY warm and I just thought it was because it was sitting on my lap and not venting properly to cool the system. I took it in for tech support and they told me the same thing but it never seemed to do it. I finally got tired of it and looked into a few options. I'm not a gamer and just really need it for internet, some mild word processing, and email but didn't want to pay a fortune. I opted to take a chance on a netbook (with my dying laptop as a back-up just in case it didn't work out) and after a lot of research Asus won out.

When I first got it home, yes, the start-up seemed to take forever but I had read that as a complaint and knew to expect it. Then when I turned it on it felt slower than what I expected, however, as I had read reviews I knew that perhaps the upgrade to a 2GB RAM would make it faster. At this point, the computer needed to restart and began downloading about 30+ Windows uploads. WHen it restarted, it actually did run faster and that problem was mitigated. I opted to go for the OCZ Technology OCZ2MV6672G 2GB Notebook Memory and installed it with no problems. I booted it up and this sucker flies now.

Yes the keyboard is small but it's workable and I like the bumps on the touchpad as well. Windows 7 Starter is a little bit of a bitch but I will get the upgrade with my next paycheck so that's really a non-issue for me.

Battery life - hell the bleep yes! I ran the battery down entirely (just left it up and running) and then did a full recharge. I set every power setting and screen brightness setting on it's lowest level and the battery icon said I had over 8 hours of battery life. Even with it on it's highest settings I had about 6 which still isn't bad. When I tried using my laptop on a cross country flight, it died after less than 4 hours.

In terms of surfing the web, yes, some sites do not go to full screen and some don't resize in the smaller window. However, that's minor. If you're a huge gamer, I can't make a recommendation either way as I'm not one. There's no CD or DVD drive but that's minor in the grand scheme of things to me...the same as the fingerprint issue. It's a laptop, you're supposed to use it LOL

This is the perfect laptop/netbook for those of us that just need to surf the web, do email, facebook, etc. If you need more to do graphics, major gaming that may need more memory or better graphics, etc, then this may not be for you.

Oh and for those that graded this low because of a bad customer service experience, I disregarded your reviews and encourage others to do as well. No customer service is perfect, but I care more about how well it works and the experience you have with the product versus the fact that someone wasn't nice to you on the phone or you think you're entitled to something free after the warranty expires. You're entitled to your opinion but it does a disservice to what a great netbook this really is...love it!

    ASUS U50Vg-AM1 Thin and Light 15.6-Inch Black Laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium)

    ASUS U50Vg-AM1 Thin and Light 15.6-Inch Black Laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium) Review

    I have owned 4 laptops over the last 8 years, 1st one was an IBM, last 3 were HP. The last one was an HP dv9000, and for the most part was ok
    after i rolled it back too windows xp, so i have no idea how similar win 7 is too vista, 7 seems a little cartoony but i will get used too it.
    My old Hp had an amd turion 1.6 GHz dual core processor, 2 gigs of ram, 1mb cache, 120gb hd, and an nvidia geforce go 6150 video card, with no dedicated memory. I am not a hardcore gamer, but do enjoy playing WOW, sim city, madden nfl, fifa, couple 1st person shooters, and my HP was just killing me everything was choppy
    and lagged. so far for the few hours that i have been using the asus i am impressed with the performance.

    the keyboard is very nice, feels good, without too much noise. the touch pad works and feels great also.
    The laptop boots up fast and runs real quiet even when i'm playing WOW, i don't hear it buzzing or crackling.

    not sure how long the battery lasts, but for me that is not a big deal.

    The color is a black metallic with blue, i thought it was going too be just a gloss black, but the metallic looks very sharp as far as i care.

    wish the screen had a higher resolution but no biggie. and the finger prints, also no big deal for me.

    all in all for the price i am very happy with what i got. great warranty, nice performance, looks great and feels like good quality, didn't have a ton of bloatware like my last HP, which will save you time uninstalling garbage. My desktop has an asus motherboard,(never an issue) and my son owns one of their gaming laptops, for about 8 months now (he pushes it atleast 4-7 hours gaming a day)still holding strong never a crash. customer service is excellent, and unless something major happens in the coming months, from my personal asus experiences i think i will keep buying their laptops. so far no complaints.

    Sony VAIO VPC-W211AX/T 10-Inch Brown Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life

    Sony VAIO VPC-W211AX/T 10-Inch Brown Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life Review

    This is the newest model (W211AX) of Sony's Netbooks and has a extended battery life. While others may complain of the battery- I like the fact that it elevates the netbook up towards you. Depending on the surfing you do- you may have a bit less battery life than advertised. I ordered the pink Vaio and couldn't be more pleased. It was everything I expected it to be and then some. The Track pad is reasonably sized and much larger than most. The screen clarity is amazing. My only complaint is where the speakers are situated for the volume. I simply resolved this issue on my own and use my ipod head phones when listening to sound. To the lower right of screen you may also adjust zoom level. Your options are 100, 125, and 150. If you do increase the zoom level- You do loose a bit of viewing and must scroll from side to side. The keyboard buttons are a bit elevated and makes it easier for typing. The only other downfall that I could say would be that the netbook only comes with Windows 7 Starter. With this program starter version you are unable to change desktop background. Bummer... I love that I can install my SD card and download my photos too. Perfect for web surfing, downloading pics, typing, emails, etc.
    AMAZING LITTLE NETBOOK!!!!!!!!
    SONY CONTINUES TO IMPROVE THEIR APPEARANCE, MODELS INTERIOR, AND STAND BY THE SONY NAME WITH EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!!!

    MSI U123-033US 10.2-Inch Netbook - Blue

    MSI U123-033US 10.2-Inch Netbook - Blue Review

    I fell into must have mode upon seeing this item in blue and knowing
    MSI made a red casing I instantly questioned them via their site. Much to
    my disappointment I got nowhere fast, after almost two hours on the phone
    listening to a recording of "somebody will be with you shortly" I gave up on that route. Finally got somebody from MSI to respond almost instantly via email, again only disappointing me. He offered very little assistance in telling me what I wanted to hear, and was very generic in telling me that MSI did not customize.

    So knowing I wanted the longer battery life with built in cam, bluetooth, and b/g/n I ordered the 123-003 blue. While tracking that order, I then stumbled across where amazon.com was now offering 123-004 red as a pre-order. Amazon was very cooperative and understanding to my plight. I simply refused the order, it was returned to them a few days later. My order was fully refunded and was informed I may pre order at my leisure, with no pressure from them to do it in a hurried fashion. Amazon.com gets major kudos for that.

    Despite them suggesting the item was ready to be shipped til a certain date, so I bumped up the pre-order free shipping to second day. Then I found out that pre-orders were not leaving til that date and it was actually available sooner with more cash involved for shipping. Honestly, find this to be a negative with amazon.com, for I had pre-ordered at miniumum of three weeks prior to it being
    available for shipping, and they had it ready to be shipped out, it would have been nice if they would have shipped it, rather than hold on to it trying to get folks to bump up the shipping. Poor practices if you ask me.

    The computer itself, AWESOME! Fast small easy enough to navigate.

    I recommend getting a mouse and installing additional drivers for the touchpad so you can disable it if you are plannin on doing any typing. Its very annoying when it jumps the cursor around and also deleting typed text. UGH.

    If you are upgrading the memory, be weary. This is not a one two three you're done. There are no instructions as to how to separate and replace bottom cover, I was only able to find out online that there are a total 10 screws that would need to come out, 10th one being underneath the 'if seal broken violates warranty sticker'

    Which I understand why, you're tinkering around with electronic and plastic components where its very easy to snap and hear the wrong sounding pop. So just be warned I found this aspect of getting it up and running very difficult and stressing.

    The screen is sweet and better than what I had anticipated,
    displays almost perfectly (with room to spare) my favorite gaming site.
    Which I had seen on smaller systems and knew 8.9 would not suit my needs.

    The speakers, well less than par, but honestly, its something you're going to overlook if you are buying this for the sake of having a very portable very convenient netbook.

    I am unsure what Windows is actually doing with their new OS and I hope they take in mind that more and more of us will be using netbooks to run their OS. I have heard they are suggesting a limited version of 7 for netbooks where they would be crippling the computing environment so that end user would only have 3 programs running. That scares me a bit, but I love XP, so as long as I have XP I will be extremely happy with my present purchase.

    Oh one major drawback to this computer, UGH UGH, the bag that is a freebie add-on...does not fit the computer with the battery in. I find that to be the dumbest thing ever, to send out a product with a carrying case that does not carry the item you purchased safely or conveniently. Sortta like giving me a gas card for a 100 gallons of reg unleaded when I
    bought a vehicle with a diesel engine. Just plain DUMB. Thankfully its something you're going to ultimately overlook as you try and figure out WTH am I going to do with this.

    Yes I would recommend to friends and family, and feel it was worth my nickels dimes and pennies.

    HP Mini 110-1031NR 10.1-Inch Black Netbook (Refurbished)

    HP Mini 110-1031NR 10.1-Inch Black Netbook (Refurbished) Review

    This "New" HP Mini 110-1031 that is advertised is not what you will get. I ordered it and received a Refurbished HP Mini 110-1031cl. I see Amazon just recently changed the description to say "Refurbished." I have to say it is a nice little netbook and even being refurbished, I think it was a good deal at 5.00. It looked and acted like new. The only problem was that it was supposed to have a 6 cell battery and came with a 3 cell battery. Amazon customer service was great and told me to send it back even though I used it already and they would send the correct netbook. Well, it was still a Refurbished 1033cl but again it looked and performed new and this one had the 6 cell battery.

    Just a word of caution. I tried changing some monitor settings and decided to do a system restore to default settings. The netbook comes with Roxio Backup and Windows System restore is turned off. I didn't register Roxio but did the restore anyway. I guess because I didn't register Roxio and Windows Restore was turned off, when the system restarted, I got a Windows Boot Manager error message. Windows wouldn't boot because it said components were missing.

    The good news is that once you get past the fact that HP Support staff is difficult to understand with the thick accents, they do take care of you. They tried to help fix the problem and when they couldn't, they sent me a set of recovery disks for free which arrived the next day. Oh yea, no disks were included with the netbook. I ordered an external DVD drive and will do the recovery tomorrow. Roxio Backup comes pre-installed but this was my first and last time using it. It will be deleted on my netbook.

    Overall I would recommend this netbook. The speed is pretty good and if you upgrade the memory to 2GB, which is inexpensive and easy to do even for a novice, it's even better. It connects to wireless quickly and is just what I was looking for.

    Acer Aspire One AOA110-1995 8.9-Inch Seashell White Netbook - 2.5 Hour Battery Life

    Acer Aspire One AOA110-1995 8.9-Inch Seashell White Netbook - 2.5 Hour Battery Life Review

    When I first got this laptop, is was appalled at the setup time. Then, I was upset at how slow it ran. But, for some reason, ASUS decided to include a whole bunch of unnecessary junk. For instance, they included DVD player software, for a laptop that has no optical drive. Now, I know that they are paid by the software developers to include versions of software on their computers, but this case is a little bit excessive. So, I installed Ubutnu from a USB thumb drive (you can pick these up for next to nothing, and downloading Ubutnu is free and legal) and I finally had a laptop that preformed well enough to actually surf the web/edit text documents/etc. If you're interested, you can find instructions for installing Ubutnu at [...] *note:these instructions are probably not for beginning users. if you are somewhat familiar with Windows, and you have another computer to follow along with or you can print the instructions out, you should be fine. If you are not all that comfortable with computers, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS as you can cause your laptop to stop working, in which case you would have to pay a computer repair tech to fix the problems.

    A great choice for students, it comes with Windows XP Home, 16 GB of total storage, and a 3-cell battery for up to 2.5 hours of battery life.

    Weighing just 2.17 pounds, the stylish Acer Aspire One goes anywhere with you.
    Designed especially for mobile devices, the 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor uses a brand new design structure new hafnium-infused circuitry, which reduces electrical current leakage in transistors to conserve energy and gives you more time away from the wall outlet--up to 2.5 hours with the included 3-cell battery. Other features include 1 GB of installed RAM (1.5 GB maximum), 54g Wi-Fi networking (802.11b/g), multi-format memory card reader, multiple USB ports, and built-in email, web browsing, and digital media applications.

    It comes preinstalled with the Microsoft Windows XP Home operating system, which offers more experienced users an enhanced and innovative experience that incorporates Windows Live features like Windows Live Messenger for instant messaging and Windows Live Mail for consolidated email accounts on your desktop.

    Processor
    The Intel Atom processor uses a brand new design structure that packs in 47 million transistors into a single chip sized at just 22mm (0.87 inches), and it uses just 2.5 watts of power--less than 1/10 of the 35 watts used by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor--for excellent battery management. This 1.6 GHz Atom N270 processor also includes a power-optimized front side bus of 533 MHz for faster data transfer on demanding mobile applications and a 512 KB L2 cache (which temporarily stores data).

    Storage
    This version of the Aspire One comes with 8 GB of NAND flash memory solid-state drive (SSD), which is adequate for students and those who want to use the laptop primarily as an email and web surfing device. Faster and more reliable, flash memory provides a rapid boot-up and quicker access to applications while improving battery life. Flash memory is also more reliable than hard disk memory, mainly because there are no moving parts. Since data is written to stationary flash memory instead of a spinning hard disk, you have less risk of hardware problems with the hard disk when you're on the move. It's an ideal feature for a travel notebook where knocks and sudden movements are par for the course.

    In addition, this Aspire One comes with an 8 GB Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) memory card--great for storing digital media. The Asprire One has one dedicated SD memory card slot for the included SDHC card as well as a second multi-in-one card reader that's compatible with five different types of memory cards--Secure Digital, MultiMediaCard, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO and xD-Picture Card--for maximum flexibility. The additional SD card slot seamlessly integrates with the internal NAND flash module as an added storage device. The ability to have both a multi-in-1 card reader and a SD card reader at the same time allows you to download photos from the multi-in-1 to share with others and store to the SD card as an internal storage device simultaneously.

    Memory
    The 1 GB of installed RAM (512 MB onboard memory and one 512 MB DIMM, 533 MHz) can be expanded to a maximum of 1.5 GB of RAM,

    DVD/CD Drive
    Because of its size, the Aspire One does not come with an integrated optical drive, but optional CD/DVD read/write drives can be connected to the laptop via one of the three USB ports, enabling you to create your music mixes, burn movies to DVD, and more.

    Connectivity
    This Acer Aspire One notebook has an integrated 54g wireless LAN (Acer InviLink) that's compatible with 802.11b and 802.11g networks and offers Acer's SignalUp technology for enhanced antenna efficiency. This notebook provides the following connections:

    • 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
    • Secure Digital (SD) card reader, also compatible with MultiMedia cards (MMCs)
    • Multi-in-one card reader supports SD, MMC, Memory Stick/Memory Stick PRO, and XD Picture Cards
    • 1 VGA monitor port
    • 1 headphone jack and 1 microphone jack
    • RJ-45 port for 10/100 Fast Ethernet connection
    • 56K modem port (V.90)

    Screen, Video and Audio
    The 8.9-inch screen has a WSVGA resolution (1024 x 600) and support for up a 262K color depth. Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, which uses shared video memory with the main memory. Acer's CrystalBrite display technology guarantees the best possible visual experience by preventing the diffusion of surrounding light and internal ray. Compared to normal TFT LCDs, Acer CrystalBrite technology is able to read color coordinates more accurately, thus minimizing distortion and creating high-fidelity colors in all environments.

    This notebook includes an integrated audio card with Microsoft DirectSound compatibility, and it includes two stereo speakers.

    What's in the Box
    This package contains the Acer Aspire One notebook PC (AOA110-1995; LU.S040B.235), rechargeable 3-cell lithium-ion battery, AC adapter, and operating instructions. It is backed by a limited warranty for parts and labor for one year from date of purchase.
